Children’s Eye Examination
Clear and comfortable vision is critical to every child’s development. We use a range of paediatric testing methods, including ‘objective testing’ which allows us to assess the health, prescription, and muscle status of an eye without needing to question the patient. Children can feel happy and at ease having their eyes examined while we can obtain a very accurate evaluation of their vision and eye health. For babies and very young children Mr Batham uses the Plus-Optix Paediatric Vision Screening Device which from a distance of one meter and in just one second or less, a measurement of both eyes is taken simultaneously and provides him with reliable & accurate measurement values of prescription, pupil diameter and inter-pupillary distance without needing to use drops. We recommend a routine check prior to starting school and at any age if concerns are raised. Children aged 18 or under are entitled to an NHS funded eye examination. Mr Batham is fully DBS checked with certification in both adult and child safe guarding. We offer a full chaperone service on request.
Our dispensers advise on and dispense spectacles for children. Children’s faces have different proportions compared to adults so need frames that are designed specifically for kids, not scaled down versions of adult frames. Our dispensers also trained to communicate with both parents/carers and children.
Dispensing opticians can advise children and their parents/carers about myopia management and the importance of addressing this as early as possible. They can dispense speciality lenses to control myopia progression and contact lens opticians can prescribe speciality myopia management contact lenses.

Myopia Contact Lenses
We use Misight lenses by Coopervision; a daily disposable lens designed to reduce the rate of myopic (short sighted) change that can occur in children as they grow.
EyeZen Kids
EyeZen kids is recommended for children. Whilst traditional single vision lenses only create optimised distance vision, which can lead to eye fatigue. EyeZen kids lenses have optical zones, for sharp, comfortable vision both at distance and close.The lenses consider children’s morphology and behaviour to provide their most comfortable lens.
Children’s Frames
As an NHS (provider) it is our duty to dispense frames to children that provide the best fit and maximum comfort. We stock spectacles for children from pre-school age to teenage years. Children can enjoy fun frames from our Ray Ban Kids and Nike Junior collection. We can also source Tomato frames as well as lesser branded range. All our children’s frames can be glazed with high-quality UV lenses, providing the important protection that young eyes need.
